Mimicry of the Butterfly Orchid
A sensory depiction of the butterfly orchid which mimics butterflies to ensure pollination through deception. The orchid’s strategy for illusion and deception is echoed by visual illusions i.e. butterflies are defined by the negative space of the flowers; flowers are depicted in the patterns on the butterflies (with differing subtlety or prominence according to differing colour contrasts). Medium: collaged gauche hand-painted textures. 55cm x 87cm
